Firefox users may select Menu > Help > About Firefox to display the installed version of the browser and to run a check for updates manually.
The following pages list direct downloads for supported Firefox channels (will be available later on August 25, 2020)
Firefox 80.0 Changes
New Add-ons Blocklist
Firefox 80 is the first version of the browser that includes the new add-ons blocklist. Mozilla maintains a list of problematic browser extensions, e.g. malicious or privacy-invading ones, that blocks included add-ons from being run in Firefox.
Core benefits of the new blocklist are that it reduces the time it takes to load and parse the blocklist significantly.
The new blocklist mechanic is also introduced in Firefox ESR 78.x, one of the few instances that an ESR version gets a feature update with a minor update.
You can check out documentation on Mozilla's add-ons blocking process here.
Other changes
- Firefox can be set as the default PDF reader for viewing PDF documents.
- New preference to warn users if a form is submitted from an insecure context to a secure context. Name is security.warn_submit_secure_to_insecure.
- Animations are reduced for users with reduced motion settings.
- Alt-Tab previews increased from 6 to 7.
- Enterprise: The Permissions policy has been updated to support virtual reality notifications.
- Firefox's HTTPS-only mode is not exposed in the Settings in Firefox 80 Stable.
